Privacy Policy

Last updated 2026. This policy explains what jodychaffin.com collects, why, and who we share it with. It's written in plain language on purpose — this is a small author site, not a data business.

What we collect

When you submit a book verdict, we collect your email address, your four puzzle-solution selections, and — if you provide it — your first name. We also keep a short-lived, hashed record of your IP address and submission time to prevent spam and abuse. When you sign up for the newsletter, we collect your email address (and name, if you provide it).

Transactional email vs. marketing email

Submitting a verdict always triggers one transactional reply confirming whether you cracked the case (and your bonus, if you did). This is the reply you asked for, so it's sent regardless of any marketing consent.

We only add you to our marketing list — for occasional new-release news — if you separately tick the opt-in checkbox on the form. That checkbox is unticked by default. If you opt in, we send one confirmation email first (double opt-in) before any marketing email reaches you. Every marketing email includes a one-click unsubscribe link and our physical mailing address, and you can unsubscribe at any time with no effect on future book-verdict replies.

Who we share data with

We use a small number of trusted processors to run the site, and share only what each needs to do its job:

  • Resend — sends the transactional verdict emails.
  • Kit — holds our opt-in marketing list and sends new-release announcements.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile — verifies form submissions aren't automated abuse.
  • Cloudflare Web Analytics — cookieless, aggregate site-traffic analytics. It does not use cookies or track you individually, which is why this site has no cookie-consent banner.

Cookies

This site does not set cookies. Our analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics) is cookieless by design, so no cookie-consent banner is needed or shown.
